Broadband ADSL
What is broadband?
Broadband (or sometimes called ADSL) is, in simplest terms a connection
to the internet that is always on (or connected). As opposed to a dial-up
connection that you have to connect and disconnect as and when you
want to access the internet.
With broadband access to websites is almost instantaneous. Large attachments
on emails can be easily sent and received, and the transfer of large
data files is routine.
Broadband expands the functionality and your experience of the internet
as video and audio can be received as continuous streams. Working
remotely becomes a reality as VPNs (virtual private networks) can be
established between offices and remote workers, allowing data to be
securely shared no matter where you are in the world.
A broadband connection can also save your business money as you can take
advantage of VOIP (voice over internet protocol) technology, to route
business calls over the internet.
What are the benefits of Broadband?
To summarise:
Cost effective: in call costs and time spent waiting, especially if you
start to use the internet to save money on your phone calls.
Contiuous use: it is always on, so there is no need to wait for a connection
when needing to access a website of send and receive emails.
Delivery speed: emails are sent immediately and are automatically delivered
every few minutes.
Instant access: websites will download many times quicker than compared
to a dial-up connection.
Multiple use: because broadband is always connected to the internet you
can allow remote workers access to your network from internet connections
out of the office, whether that be from their home or mobile connection. |
